U.S. Energy Group Proudly Announces the Launch of:
USE-INFO
A Public Service Energy Awareness Program
- Empowering Tenants for Building Efficiency -
Fresh Meadows, NY: Jerry Pindus, CEO of U.S. Energy Group, announced the launch of USE-Info, a FREE ENERGY AWARENESS PROGRAM, designed to help property managers draw attention to the essential part residents can play in the global conservation effort. U.S. Energy Group will make a series of fun and “catchy,” downloadable flyers. Managers can print the flyers and post them in their buildings – near mailboxes, at the front doors, in elevators and on every floor.
To coincide with the NYARM Real Estate Expo, the first series of USE-INFO flyers was officially introduced on September 26, 2007. They are available in the right-hand sidebar. The campaign will focus on ways to reduce building-wide heating inefficiencies, to save electricity, to reduce hot water consumption and to decrease air conditioner use. Some specific themes that will be featured include the importance of reporting overheated apartments to management in the winter and the connection between hot water usage and carbon emissions.
“I truly believe that multi-family building residents and commercial tenants care as deeply about the environment as we owners and managers do,” Pindus stated. “If they’re aware of how their actions impact the greater ecology, they will make better choices, helping run our buildings more efficiently and benefiting the environment.”
The public service initiative is designed to encourage residents to make better decisions. For example, too many residents open their windows when their apartments are overheated, and they have no idea they are throwing energy (and money) out the window – causing the boiler to burn more fuel and adding carbon emissions to the atmosphere. The education program will encourage them to inform the building management when their apartments are overheated so that the boiler can be adjusted, radiators can be repaired or unblocked, valves can be replaced, and plumbing problems can be identified.
“The single most important step a property manager can take to run a building more efficiently is to install an energy management system (EMS),” Pindus stated. “That said, there are many additional steps we should be taking, and empowering residents as efficiency monitors is an important one. Information is the key to empowerment.”
